MANO SOL NEWS: (3/19/5) VERNAL EQUI-NEWS - Yeah, as you can see, I haven't been keeping up with news on a regular basis, but things have been keeping me busy. For one, The Center for the Tone Deaf and Talent Impaired has undergone an upgrade, getting a new computer and other equipment. Hopefully this will speed up getting this album out. By the way, the album is going along really well, as I have enlisted the talents of Adrian Esparza from Aztec Zodiac on guitars and bass, and the lovely Selina Nevarez on vocals, as well as DJ Marc X Uneek on turntables. This combination is definitely going to turn the quality of this next Mano Sol album up a couple of notches. Speaking of Aztec Zodiac, Mano Sol will share the stage with Aztec Zodiac on Friday, April 8th at the Jokers Pub on Piedras. If you are in the area, you do not want to miss this show... (1/26/5) "SYSTEM" EXCLUSIVES! After a wild New Year's Eve experiencing my new favorite weird artist The Shock Deformity and Amputee (by the way, Mano Sol and DJ Fatal from Double Agents were supposed to perform afterwards, but we chickened out - thanks and apologies to Javier at Ratz Booking for the invite anyways), Mano Sol is back in the studio, collaborating with exciting and talented artists from El Paso, aiming for a summer release of "¿Sol or System?", the long awaited (and highly touted) second album... Already 5 songs are in various stages of production. This new album is a different turn from "Drop Your Pants Here", going in more of a dance direction, and involving more of a human element (vocals, live instrumentation, mariachis(?!))... In the meantime, Mano Sol Soundsystem is doing a live laptop set at the UTEP Breezeway (between the two Union buildings) on Monday, January 31st from 12-1pm. It's free, and everyone is invited...
(12/3/4) MANO SOL'S VIDEO "DUB SHACK" FINALIST AT FILM FESTIVAL! Mano Sol's video for "Dub Shack" was selected as a finalist at the Mini DV Festival in Hollywood, California. The video was selected among over 1,000 entries from across the country to be showcased at the Raleigh Studios (across the street from Paramount Studios in Hollywood). The festival ran December 10-12, 2004. For information, check out the Mini DV Festival website. Huge thanks to epfilm.org for giving me a reason to make the video in the first place... (10/15/4) Special thanks to Adam, Adam, and Tracy from Timonium for letting me open for them at the T Lounge on Thursday, October 7th; Big thank you to Crystal at the T Lounge, as well as Gilbert and Patty from epfilm.org (my unofficial enterouge). Okay, now it finally appears that Mano Sol will lay low for awhile... but fear not; I finally got some free time to start work on a new album. "Enemy Mime", a short 90 second hip hop freestyle featuring my good friend Bosco the Beetman is out the gate (I know, 90 seconds isn't much, but what do you expect from someone who has been making 30 second songs for the past few years?)... (9/13/4) Just when it looked like the Sol would go dormant for awhile, It appears there will be another show at the T Lounge on Thursday, October 7th. Mano Sol will be opening for Timonium, a band from San Francisco/LA presently on tour. According to Timonium's unofficial website, "Timonium was formed in 1994 by singer/guitarist Adam Hervey and drummer Adam Garcia. Timonium added bassist/vocalist Tracy Uba and guitarist James Rawson in 1996. The band's sound can be described as guitar driven, "slowcore". Many of Timonium's songs begin with slow melodic passages and build to "Supernova" style crescendos. Band's such as Bedhead, Galaxie 500, Mogwai, Low and Tristeza immediately come to mind when listening to Timonium." The show's only four bucks, so I hope to see you all there! Big thanks to Crystal from the T Lounge for the hook up! (9/1/4) Thank you to the 140+ people who showed up to the "The Good, The Bad & The Indie" film and music festival at the T Lounge on Friday August 20th! Mano Sol Performed with Double Agents (while this was Vince and Tony Griffin's final performance together, they will still be doing their own things on the side), and Aux. 78. In addition, Mano Sol premiered the video to "Dub Shack". Thanks to Gilbert Chavarria (for the pyrotechnics- fire and smoke animations) and Robert Reyes (for helping bring the Mano Sol icon to life)... For more info on this show, go to www.epfilm.org... (7/13/4) Big Thanks to everyone who made it to the T Lounge on Saturday, July 10th. The show went well and I saw lots of new faces. Special thanks to Double Agents and the T Lounge staff for letting us go on again. On August 20th, Mano Sol will be showing the world (!) premiere of its self produced video for the song "Dub Shack" at a film show at the T Lounge, presented by EpFilm.org. More details to come regarding this show on this website or at www.epfilm.org. (5/16/4) Well, as you can see, I have finally figured out how to upload audio to this site... Now available are two songs. The first one is "Dub Shack", a song which was composed a few months after "Drop Your Pants Here" was completed and so missed the cd. It probably won't make the new album, but you can download it here for free (a video is in the works for this song). The second song is a live version of "¿Why 'Tu Que'?", featuring Bosco doing his version of "Green Light Go" on top of the mix. This song was definitely one of the highlights of performing during the summer of 2001. In the background toward the end, you can also hear Power 102's DJ Pooh One. Also available for download are the two scenes of MTV: Undressed which feature the Mano Sol Songs "Wagnall's Funk" and "SYLSPB (So, You Like Smooth Peanut Butter)? from "Drop Your Pants Here". The two video files are in quicktime format, so if you don't have quicktime, get it here. (4/25/4) First of all, Big thanks to everyone who made it out to The T Lounge on Friday, April 23 (see Flyer). Special thanks to Double Agents who served it up proper. Big thanks to Crystal and Michael at the T Lounge for having us, to Vanessa for helping with promotion, to Marina Monsisvais from HERO Radio and The El Paso Times (Open Mic), and Michael Devine at What's Up for the kind words. Hopefully all of you who couldn't make this show can come out for the next one- you won't be disappointed! (4/19/4) Special thanks to everyone at Surge's for the Mano Sol / Girl Kills Boy / Vertigo Shock / Aux.78 show. Extra special thanks to Sehkh for saving my ass... (4/17/4) Special thanks to everyone who came out to see Swerve, Artistic Noise and CoLab (Mano Sol and Double Agents) on Friday, April 16. Hopefully, this will be the start of many great shows at Club Xcape... |
